The Opportunity
We have a permanent Senior Structures Engineer/Senior Bridge Engineer role to join our Amey Consulting team in Scotland. We have design hubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen together with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn and Huntly.
Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with long-term contracts of 8 years (extendable up to 12 years). We also work on a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities and contractors across the country. These contracts provide opportunities for technical, engineering and professional design staff at all career stages to work on Scotland’s arterial road network.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
* Take ownership and lead projects from start to finish, from preparing the quotation to handover.
* Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
* Oversee junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and take responsibility for their actions.
* Contribute to the professional development of junior staff and act as a Delegated Engineer.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
* Manage a small, locally based single-discipline technical team and deliver their workload.
* Contribute to bid preparation and general work-winning activities.
* Promote effective Health and Safety practices within the team.
What You Will Bring To Us
* Developed experience and expertise within the Structures field, gained in an engineering role or equivalent.
* Ability to produce or oversee technically sound engineering solutions, compliant with relevant standards and client requirements.
* Ownership of deliverables and ability to check them to a reasonable standard.
* Strong working knowledge of software and analytical tools (e.g., LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
* Good commercial awareness and understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
* Experience in management and communication of hazards and risks with appropriate mitigation.
* Understanding of interface management; ensure alignment with other disciplines’ deliverables.
* Incorporated or Chartered status with the ICE or IStructE (or equivalent professional licence) is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts.
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject or demonstrable equivalent learning.
