The Opportunity
We are working with a successful and growing multi-channel business seeking an experienced Group Purchasing Manager / Head of Buying to lead their central purchasing operations from their Telford head office.
This is a strategic yet hands-on position where you’ll take full ownership of supplier management, cost control, and purchasing performance across the group. You will manage a small but capable team, develop supplier partnerships in the UK, Europe, and China, and play a key role in driving efficiency, profitability, and long-term growth through smarter, data-led buying decisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and centralise the purchasing function within the Telford head office.
2. Manage and mentor a small team to ensure accurate and efficient buying processes.
3. Take ownership of supplier relationships, contract renewals, and negotiations.
4. Identify and deliver cost savings while maintaining quality and service levels.
5. Use data and market insights to guide purchasing strategy and supplier performance.
6. Streamline and modernise purchasing processes, systems, and reporting.
7. Collaborate with warehouse, sales, and finance teams to support overall business goals.
8. Represent the company professionally as the key contact for suppliers.
About You
9. Proven experience in group buying or procurement within wholesale, retail, or eCommerce.
10. Demonstrable success in negotiation, cost reduction, and supplier management.
11. Strong commercial awareness and analytical mindset, with advanced Excel skills.
12. Team leadership experience, able to develop and motivate others.
13. Confident communicator with excellent relationship-building skills.
14. Experience with purchasing or ERP systems would be an advantage.
15. Proactive and results-focused, with a willingness to take full ownership.
