This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary ward team, supported by a Band 7 Clinical Specialist OT. It is a friendly and supportive team that welcomes new staff and the innovative ideas and skills they bring. The post involves occupational therapy work on a male ward with opportunities including:
Responsibilities
* Carrying an inpatient caseload, including performing assessments and 1:1 interventions to build functional and social skills.
* Working closely with the ward Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) and the outpatient MDT (Home Treatment and Community Mental Health Teams).
* Facilitating group interventions.
* Carrying out assessments and promoting occupational functioning and wellbeing on the ward while facilitating safe and effective discharges.
* Managing a clinical caseload.
* Working as a member of the MDT.
* Supporting the development of evidence-based OT practice.
* Providing OT-specific assessments and interventions via groups and individual work related to self-care, work and leisure.
* Contributing to service development.
* Working independently without direct supervision.
* Developing skills, knowledge and experience through participation in the Oxleas AHP Preceptorship Programme and the Trust-wide Band 5 OT Support Group.
* Promoting the OT role within the team and ensuring attention to service user health, social, cultural and spiritual needs, and appropriate discharge planning.
* Assessing for and providing equipment to enhance independence in activities of daily living for service users with both physical disability and mental health needs.
* Planning and delivering client-centered individual and group interventions using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
* Reviewing and reflecting on practice through supervision and appraisal.
* Identifying appropriate referrals, prioritising workload and participating in risk assessment and risk management plans.
* Maintaining up-to-date records in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.
Qualifications and Skills
* Experience or interest in occupational therapy within mental health settings.
* Ability to work as part of an MDT and attend relevant clinical meetings.
* Strong communication skills with service users, carers, colleagues and external agencies.
* Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
