Offer description

At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Test & Development Engineer-Inverter to be based at our customer’s site in Gaydon

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

We’re seeking a hands-on and technically driven Test & Development Engineer to take ownership of the validation and optimization of automotive-grade inverter systems for electric vehicle (EV) powertrains. This role blends high-voltage testing, system integration, and performance tuning—especially during pre-development phases—with a focus on dyno-based test activities, motor control algorithm validation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Area of Responsibility

1. Lead and execute inverter development and validation activities, with a strong emphasis on dyno test environments.
2. Develop and manage end-to-end inverter test programmes, covering System, Mechanical, Hardware, Software, and Control domains.
3. Define and review test cases, create structured test plans, manage test facilities, resolve test issues, and generate technical reports.
4. Conduct motor control testing and refinement including:
5. Field-Oriented Control (FOC)
6. Current Control loops
7. PWM strategies
8. Interface with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate inverter systems into full EV platforms, including vehicle and bench-level validation.
9. Support fault diagnostics, FMEA analysis, and root cause investigations for inverter components and controls.
10. Collaborate on test automation and simulation environments using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, and CANoe.
11. Validate products to automotive standards including ISO 26262, ISO 16750, UN/ECE R10, and SAE J1772.
12. Engage with EME (Electric Machine Engineering) teams for motor/inverter co-validation — EME experience is valued but not mandatory.

Knowledge / Experience

Must-Have

13. Experience in inverter development and validation, ideally with hands-on exposure to dyno testing
14. Deep understanding of motor control algorithms, especially FOC and current control strategies
15. Proficient in lab equipment (oscilloscopes, HV setups, dynos) and testing tools (Python, LabVIEW, CANoe)
16. Working knowledge of vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay)
17. Familiarity with safety-critical validation per ISO 26262 and ASPICE

Preferred

18. Experience with electric drive systems (BEV, HEV, PHEV)
19. Exposure to EME activities and motor/inverter co-design challenges
20. Awareness of thermal management and battery integration implications for inverter performance

In return for bringing your expertise to our business we offer a competitive salary along with excellent benefits including:

·Pension Scheme – We match employee contribution up to 5% of salary

·25 Days’ Holiday

·Private Health Care

·Tata Jaguar Land Rover Privilege Scheme - up to 20% off new JLR vehicles
