Job overview

Additional allowances will be paid based on rostered hours and the frequency of your participation on the rota. The Trust is compliant with the European Working Time Directive.

This is a 12-month post from August 2026, open to all post-Primary FRCA (or equivalent) anaesthetic trainees, who wish to develop a further interest in medical education.
The trainee will have their rota amended for education commitments and will have time dedicated to spend in staff training, education and possibly medical simulation projects, depending on the project needs, with the remainder of the time allocated to clinical commitment and on-call requirements.

The post would suit an individual at CT3/CT3+ equivalent level.

1. Support to complete PG Cert in Medical Education
2. Project to enhance Primary FRCA
3. Teaching with the opportunity to explore joint trust wide options and develop an entirely updated program with a new approach.
4. Opportunity to undertake a project designed to integrate ACCS and FRCA trainees teaching.
5. Assisting in developing and delivering teaching for Anaesthetic Nurse Practitioners.
6. Opportunity to get involved in both community and international projects if the successful candidate wishes.

Main duties of the job

The duties will include pre, per and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls.

The post holder will also be expected to participate on all on call rotas. The department manages 3 tiers of cover – Theatres, Obstetrics and ITU and rotation will be through all of these disciplines. All rota’s are EWTD compliant in line with the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and 2019 amendments to this contract. All on call is maintained at a 1:10 ratio.

Communication: This will include responsibility for and arrangement of:-

· Communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital.

· Communication with other hospitals.

· Teaching The postholder may be involved in teaching other doctors and medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff in the team in speciality and special interest.

The post holder will also be expected to participate on all on call rotas. Experience/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. •Basic medical degree
2. •Completed at least two years postgraduate training at CT1 and CT2 level in a relevant training programme.
3. •Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
4. •Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
5. •Completion of Initial Assessment of competence (IAC) and Initial Assessment of Competence for Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA)
