Your role
Customer-facing sales team representative working with Account Managers / Account Director focused on named accounts in the Western region which includes UK, France, and other countries. Perform technical tasks, including written proposals, network design and engineering and quotes. Must be able to communicate solutions to customers and manage ongoing technical relationship. Also work with internal Ciena organization to drive product requirements and provide customer feedback to product management.
Responsibilities
1. Network and applications engineering for CIENA products
2. Work with customer engineering teams to design Ciena optical network solutions based on state-of-the-art fiber optics technology and ultra-high-capacity technologies.
3. Have knowledge about Routing and Switching and be able to raise the right questions to identify Opportunities
4. Drive the technical introduction of new products and concepts to the customer
5. Analyze and evaluate the customer’s technical requirements, propose network architecture solutions, and respond to RFIs, RFPs and other customer requests
6. Provide product and technical expertise to support Sales efforts of transmission, switching and data products and SDN Management systems
7. Complete sophisticated network designs for customer using Ciena optical networking products.
8. Expertise in using network design and modelling tools
9. Accurate and timely generation of quotes, proposals, and detailed equipment lists
10. Interface with sales group and product management/marketing to develop and/or propose product enhancements to meet customer requirements
11. Influence Customer requirements and translate high-level customer requirements into Ciena system requirements
12. Maintain and grow technical expertise, product knowledge and sales skills through ongoing training
13. Understand competitor’s offerings and explain the technical advantages of Ciena's solutions.
14. Serve as a consultant technical resource for customer related issues
15. Act as the first-line support “Go-To” person for allocated sales opportunities
16. < 20% travel required
Required Skills
17. Strong technical knowledge of core optical networking is a must including DWDM, ROADM, 100G/200G/400G transmission, OTN technologies and DCI Solutions
18. Technical knowledge in data networking including understanding of IP/Ethernet and other data networking protocols
19. Beneficial is the technical knowledge of Software Defined Networking, network orchestration Network Function Virtualization.
20. Exhibit a high degree of presentation, interpersonal and communications skills
21. Proven ability to work in a team oriented environment, taking on-board round table discussions on solution architecture
22. Mentor other Systems Engineers
23. Ability to respond to RFP’s and communicate technical quotations accurately
24. General knowledge of computers and application programs (e.g. MS Office)
25. Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision
26. Fluent in English and another Language such as Spanish, Italian or Portuguese would be an advantage

33. Technical Degree, BSEE or equivalent
34. 5+ years of telecommunications industry experience, including optical networking experience
35. Prior Systems / Sales Engineering experience would be a plus.
36. Prior experience as a contributor on a sales account team
