Electricians are required for work on a major highway tunnel upgrade scheme in Plymouth.
The work will involve key tunnel upgrades, which will include:
* New tunnel control and traffic management system: replacing more than 20-year-old systems.
* LED lighting to improve efficiency and visibility.
* Modernised electrical distribution, including updating power cables, installing fibre cabling, improving ducts and cabinets.
* Ventilation system upgrades to better manage air quality inside the tunnel.
* Upgraded air quality monitoring sensors.
* New signage & electronic information boards/gantries, including large electronic signs on the approaches displaying live traffic/travel information.
* Automatic barriers/traffic signals to improve safety, especially in emergencies or incidents.
* Easy‑access cable duct covers and relocation of some equipment outside the tunnel for easier future maintenance.
The work will be mainly on nights, with shifts Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. There is no overtime.
The project is for approximately 3-6 months in duration.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a safety-critical medical before working and must possess a valid National Highways Safety Passport.
