Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A well-established and highly regarded independent day school in the cathedral city of Lincoln is seeking to appoint an inspiring Teacher of English to join its flourishing English department. This is a full-time, permanent role within a school that places academic excellence, intellectual curiosity and personal development at the heart of its ethos.

English is one of the school’s strongest and most popular subjects, with consistently high outcomes at GCSE and A-Level and a strong record of pupils progressing to Russell Group and other leading universities.

-----------------------------------

The Role

You will teach English Language and Literature across KS3–KS5, delivering a rich and ambitious curriculum that encourages close reading, critical thinking and confident written and spoken expression.

At Key Stage 3, pupils are introduced to a wide range of literary texts, developing analytical skills, creativity and a genuine love of reading. Teaching places strong emphasis on discussion, interpretation and academic writing from an early stage.

At GCSE and A-Level, small class sizes allow for highly personalised teaching. Lessons focus on depth of understanding, sophisticated analysis and the development of an authentic academic voice. Students are articulate, motivated and eager to engage in high-level debate.

You will have the freedom to bring your own academic interests and creative approaches into the classroom while working within a cohesive and well-planned departmental framework.

-----------------------------------

The English Department

The English department is a collegial and intellectually engaged team that values subject scholarship and collaborative practice. Schemes of work are thoughtfully designed and regularly reviewed to ensure progression, challenge and coherence.

Departmental discussions focus on pedagogy, assessment and curriculum development rather than administrative demands. Teachers work closely together to share ideas, resources and best practice, creating a stimulating professional environment.

Enrichment is central to the department’s identity and includes:

* Theatre visits and literary trips

* Reading societies and creative writing groups

* Public speaking, debating and essay competitions

-----------------------------------

The School

This independent school offers a calm, purposeful learning environment where pupils are known individually and supported to achieve their full potential. Behaviour is exemplary, and relationships between staff and pupils are respectful and warm.

The school combines traditional academic values with a progressive outlook, placing strong emphasis on independent thought, confidence and character development.

Leadership is approachable and supportive, with a clear commitment to staff wellbeing, professional autonomy and ongoing development.

-----------------------------------

Facilities and Learning Environment

The school benefits from well-appointed teaching spaces, a dedicated library and study areas that are heavily used by senior pupils. English classrooms are well-resourced, and students are encouraged to engage in independent research and wider reading.

-----------------------------------

Professional Development and Benefits

Staff enjoy:

* A competitive independent-sector salary

* Excellent CPD opportunities and support for professional growth

* Small class sizes and highly motivated pupils

* Free lunch during term time

* On-site parking and access to school facilities

-----------------------------------

The Ideal Candidate

You will:

* Hold QTS or equivalent

* Have strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

* Be confident teaching up to A-Level

* Value academic rigour, discussion and creativity

* Enjoy working in a collaborative, high-achieving environment

-----------------------------------

If you are an English Teacher seeking a role in a prestigious independent school that values scholarship, creativity and professional trust, we would be delighted to receive your CV.
