Role responsibilities

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Current Operations to direct and control the activities of the Transport for Wales Control Centres, overseeing current train operations to ensure delivery of the timetable, target performance, safety, and customer service experience. This is a particularly exciting time in this role, with the launch of the Core Valleys Lines Control at Taffs Well as part of the transformation of rail services in Wales.

The role also exists to develop the relationship with Network Rail to ensure the real time delivery of the train service. This is to be achieved by partnership working and continuous improvement of the decision making of the team of control centre colleagues.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to.

1. Provide strategic leadership to the Operations Control and across the wider organisation to ensure performance is not compromised through Control decision making.
2. Develop and implement strategic contingency plans for the operation with short, medium and long terms plans that enable it to move in the same direction as the wider business strategy in relation to PTL.
3. Align objectives, processes and behaviours to give a seamless service to both internal and external customers to agreed service level agreements.
4. Using all available data and trend analysis improve overall Control operational performance by encouraging and implementing innovation and continuous improvement initiatives that will add value to the effectiveness of the business.
5. Build and maintain collaborative productive working relationships with own team and other stakeholders. Develop a partnership approach and monitor, review and where necessary improve these working relationships to ensure the overall business strategy is achieved.
6. Lead the integration of the Taffs Well Integrated Control Centre supporting delivery of the milestones on the overall Core Valley Lines (CVL) programme.
7. Acting as client for systems transformations, ensuring benefits realisation and supporting contractor management to ensure value for money for the taxpayer and farepayer.

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.

Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills. We fully support our people who want to improve their Welsh language skills, and personal development for Welsh Language skills are offered in a variety of ways such as online learning, classroom courses and funding attendance at local community courses.
