The King’s Trust programme at Telford College is a dynamic, hands-on year designed for young people who’ve left school without the skills or confidence to jump straight into their chosen vocational or academic path. This programme is all about getting stuck in, building grit, and unlocking potential.
As a King’s Trust Lecturer, you’ll lead students through a high-energy mix of challenges that push them to develop new skills, build resilience, and boost their self-belief. The programme focuses on practical units like Teamwork, Physical Wellbeing, Career Planning, and Money Management—teaching real-life skills that matter both on and off the field.
You’ll also support learners to sharpen their Maths, helping them hit the grades they need to move forward. If you’re someone who thrives on motivating others, values toughness and teamwork, and wants to make a lasting difference, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
* Work as part of a highly successful and supportive Foundation & King’s Trust Team to progress students with a variety of needs onto their chosen career pathways and aspirations.
* Deliver the Personal Development and Employability Skills’ curriculum and entry level maths to small groups of students who require a supportive and nurturing transitional year into further education.
* Adapt and deliver a tutorial framework, including pastoral support and one-to-one mentoring of students with additional needs.
* Collaborate with the college’s student services, safeguarding and learning support staff to ensure all students are well supported.
* Undertake a range of administrative and development duties that contributes to improving standards and achievements and the learner experience.
* Develop course material and resources.
* Maintain quality systems related to the content of the course, including designing work schemes, lesson plans, assessment plans and assessment activities.
* Deliver and teach to agreed success targets.
* Regularly review and monitor the attendance and progress of learners and follow up as required to ensure learners achieve their targets.
* Carry out, collate and feedback initial and/or diagnostic assessments to identify students’ ILP and support as required, providing differentiated learning strategies to enable students to achieve their primary learning goal.
* Evaluate and assess (formative and summative) the work of learners in relation to the curriculum criteria and provide timely constructive and helpful learner feedback.
* Update and maintain electronic documentation to support teaching and learning, assessment and tracking of learner progress.
Qualifications & Training
* Teaching qualification, e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLs, or a firm commitment to achieve a Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
* Level 2 qualification (GCSE A* - C, or equivalent) in Maths and English
* Possess an appropriate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (desirable)
Skills & Expertise
* Relevant experience of teaching or supporting young people with additional needs.
* Possess a proven record of innovative, engaging and learner centred teaching, learning and assessment practice, which enables all learners to progress.
* Experience of monitoring learners individual progress with a pro-active approach for support and intervention, including differentiated teaching
* Willingness to participate in a staff development programme
