Locum Consultant in Obs & Gynae

This post is for a Locum Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist for a fixed term of 12 months. This is a whole time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Resident On Call will be part of this post.
Main duties of the job
* In addition to any specialist interests all consultants will be involved in providing a general clinical service to the Trust.
* Responsible for the continuing care & treatment of patients in your charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to & training of your staff.
* Provision of cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients & supervision of doctors in training.
* To participate in clinical audit, adverse event review, guideline development review, external review, and service development.
* Responsible for the professional supervision, training & management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required & contributing to postgraduate & CPD activity locally & nationally as appropriate.
* Participate in clinical audit under local arrangements.Commitment to taking part in annual appraisal process.
* Responsible for compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements with the support of the Trust. It is mandatory for all Consultants to keep up to date with evidence-based practice.
* Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as "Duties of a Doctor", "Good Medical Practice", & the "GMC Performance Procedures". Exceptional requirements to undertake additional duties for limited period.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration at the time of application
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
* MD/PHD or equivalent medical qualification
* Further Higher degree
Knowledge
* Evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice including: oGood clinical care oMaintaining good medical practice oGood relationships and communication with oGood working relationships with colleagues oGood teaching and training oProfessional behaviour and probity oDelivery of good acute clinical care
Skills
* Demonstrate skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
* Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
* Demonstrates the necessary range, depth and breadth of competencies specified in the General Obstetrics & Gynaecology curriculum and applying to this post
* RCOG ATSM or equivalent and demonstrable experience including that relating to a special interest to complement existing colleagues e.g., Advanced Labour ward practice ATSM
* Demonstrable experience to manage a Labour Ward independently
* Knowledge and experience to participate on the Consultant on call rota
* Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit / research within team structure within the last 3 years.
* Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years
* Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation.
* Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate
* Capacity to use logical/lateral thinking to solve problems/make decisions

* Evidence of relevant research e.g. presentations, publications in peer reviewed journals within the last 5 years.
