Overview
Research Fellow, Vulnerability & Policing Futures Research Centre. You will work within the ESRC Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre, jointly led from the University of York and University of Leeds, with a team of over 25 researchers and 38 regional, national and international partners. You will undertake significant data collection responsibilities, write up research findings, and contribute to knowledge translation through dissemination and impact work. A doctorate or equivalent research experience relevant to this field, plus proven empirical research skills, strong quantitative abilities, and experience of conducting semi-structured interviews are required.
You will join a well-supported interdisciplinary team delivering high-profile research on policing vulnerabilities. In addition to fieldwork, you will synthesise existing evidence, develop research-based collaborations with diverse partners and communities, and contribute to impact work and the development of potential future research projects. You will be line-managed by Professor Adam Crawford (University of Leeds) and work with other Centre researchers and Co-investigators to deliver cutting-edge research on vulnerability and policing.
Responsibilities
* Conduct fieldwork and data collection; contribute to the analysis and writing up of research findings.
* Synthesise existing evidence and develop research-based collaborations with partners and communities to advance social change through research.
* Engage in knowledge translation, dissemination activities, and impact work; contribute to the development of future research projects.
* Participate in team meetings and research translation activities; support policy, public services, communities, vulnerable people and NGO partners on policy and practice development.
* Support the Centre’s career development activities, including bespoke training, conference opportunities and co-authoring publications.
* Work on campus at least two days per week (York or Leeds), including Wednesdays for team meetings; travel to research sites and events across the UK (including extended fieldwork) as required.
Qualifications
* Doctorate or equivalent research experience relevant to policing, vulnerability, and social science research; proven empirical research skills.
* Strong quantitative skills and experience with semi-structured interviews.
* Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and contribute to research translation and impact activities.
* Willingness and ability to travel across the UK for fieldwork.
* Candidates must be willing and able to complete DBS and police vetting checks; the successful candidate must have been resident in the UK for at least three years at the time of appointment.
