Attendance OfficerLocation: LewishamContract: September 2025 start | 42-week contract (term-time + 3 weeks)Hours: 35 hours per weekRate: £30 per hour (umbrella) (£23 PAYE an hour)Duration: Ongoing academic year (2025–2026)Travel: On-site support across Lewisham schools requiredAbout the Role: Lewisham Council is seeking an experienced and proactive Attendance Officer to join our team for the upcoming academic year. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in improving school attendance and safeguarding children and young people across the borough.As an Attendance Officer, you will work in close partnership with schools, families, alternative provision providers and other key stakeholders to support children’s education and welfare. This is a term-time plus 3 weeks (42 weeks total) position designed to deliver both statutory and traded attendance services to Lewisham schools.Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver attendance support to a designated group of schools in line with the traded Service Level Agreement (SLA).
* Analyse attendance data and implement targeted interventions to improve pupil attendance.
* Act as Lead Professional for complex attendance cases, providing early intervention and pre-NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) support.
* Undertake home visits and lead investigations into non-attendance, preparing prosecution cases and presenting them in court where necessary.
* Participate in multi-agency meetings, ensuring families access the right support at the right time.
* Carry out duties in relation to Children Missing Education (CME) and welfare-related referrals.
Requirements:
* Essential: Previous experience working within local authority or school attendance teams.
* Sound knowledge of education legislation, attendance enforcement procedures and statutory responsibilities.
* Excellent data analysis, communication and report-writing skills.
* Strong ability to engage and support vulnerable families in an inclusive and professional manner.
* Willingness and ability to travel across Lewisham for on-site school visits.
