Job summary
This appointment to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn NHS Foundation Trust is an important part of its strategy to remain a preferred provider to Local Health Authorities and Clinical Commissioning Groups across a wide range of hospital services. This new appointment is part of a plan to improve outcomes for our elderly trauma patients. The successful candidate will work in partnership with a forward looking and enthusiastic Orthopaedic department to deliver comprehensive care to our elderly trauma patients throughout their hospital pathway. The role will include pre-operative assessment, liaison with anaesthetic staff, resuscitation, post-operative care and rehabilitation to be delivered as part of the Orthopaedic Service. There will be no commitment to the general medical on-call rota. The appointee will join our current Ortho-geriatric Consultant. This post will be supported by the Trauma Nurse Specialist as well as other orthopaedic middle grades and foundation doctors. There will be opportunities for flexible working; this can be discussed at interview.

The successful applicant will be expected to:
* Deliver quality Ortho-geriatric and medical services in the most effective way, regularly benchmarking service to improve practice.
* Support the organisational aim of QEHKL, making a positive contribution to the management and financial strategies.
* Work to strengthen links with GP's and neighbouring Trusts.
* Continue to enhance and develop Ortho-Geriatric service.
* Meet NHFD target for delivering best practice care in Fractured Neck of Femur patients.
* Initiate and take part in regular clinical audit.
* Have an active role in research

Qualifications and Registration
Essential
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* MRCS (Full) or equivalent experience.
* ATLS or equivalent.
* Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
Experience
* At least four (4) years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two (2) of which will be in Trauma & Orthopaedics or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Trauma & Orthopaedics; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
* Able to deal with Trauma & Orthopaedic emergency admissions
* Competence in pre-operative and post-operative management of general surgical patients.
Desirable
* Able to independently perform basic orthopaedic trauma operations independently to a high standard: e.g. DHS, hemiarthroplasty, ankle fracture
* NHS experience
