The Business
Finatal is partnering with a PE-backed professional services business headquartered in Yorkshire who are seeking an experienced Group Financial Controller to join its senior leadership team. With revenues of circa £100 million and a clear buy-and-build growth strategy, this is an exceptional opportunity for a commercially astute finance leader to play a pivotal role in driving the next phase of the business’ development. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Financial Controller will own the controls and reporting function - bringing rigour, pace and commercial insight to a business operating in an ambitious and fast-moving environment. This role carries real influence, with strong visibility across the senior leadership team and investor stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely management accounts are delivered to the board and PE investors
* Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing finance team across financial reporting, transactional finance and credit control.
* Manage statutory reporting, year-end audit and tax compliance, acting as the primary point of contact for external advisors
* Drive continuous improvement across financial controls, systems and processes — building the infrastructure to support a scaling business
* Support M&A activity including financial due diligence, integration of acquired businesses and carve-outs
* Prepare and present board-level financial reporting packs, investor reporting and covenant compliance
* Partner with commercial and operational leaders to deliver insightful financial analysis and challenge performance
* Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle, and rolling short-term cash flow management
* Maintain and strengthen the group’s financial controls environment in line with PE governance expectations
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a technically strong, commercially minded finance professional who thrives in a PE-backed environment. The ideal candidate will bring:
* ACA qualified through audit with significant post-qualification experience
* Proven track record as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager within a PE-backed, high-growth or professionally complex environment
* Excellent technical accounting knowledge including IFRS/UK GAAP, consolidation and audit management
* Experience supporting or leading M&A transactions, including due diligence and integration
* Strong systems capability with experience of ERP implementation or upgrade projects advantageous
* Ability to build trusted relationships at board and investor level, as well as across operational teams
* A hands‑on, roll‑up-your‑sleeves attitude - comfortable operating at both strategic and transactional levels
* Outstanding communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear business narrative
