Overview
PAWS has been formed from the merger of Pathology Services at Salford Royal Hospital and Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh Hospitals. The post is based at Salford, but you may be required to work at other sites.
Role Summary
Biomedical Support Workers in Specimen Reception are required to provide support to Blood Sciences and other departments in Pathology. The duties are varied and include entering patient data into the laboratory IT system, assisting with the laboratory handling of most types of specimens, helping with some analytical processes, and performing general clerical work.
It is important to note that you will be required to participate in the laboratory rota, delivering a 24/7 service. This post involves working late shifts 6pm-10pm.
Key Responsibilities
* Enter patient data into the Pathology IT system.
* Assist with laboratory handling of most types of specimens, help with some analytical processes, and perform general clerical work.
* Perform daily maintenance of laboratory equipment and maintain laboratory archive systems.
* Carry out general housekeeping tasks.
* Lifting heavy objects such as boxes and waste and pushing trolleys.
Qualifications & Skills
* Conscientious, capable of careful and accurate work with excellent customer care and communication skills.
* Good and accurate data entry skills with basic standards of numeracy and literacy.
* Previous laboratory experience may be an advantage but is not essential.
* This role does not meet the criteria required to qualify for sponsorship.
