CONSULTANT IN OBSTETRICS – FETAL MEDICINE

The closing date is 20 February 2026

Applications are invited for a full‑time substantive Specialist in Fetal and Maternal Medicine Consultant

As a surgical, cardiac, and genetic referral centre, UHL delivers specialist multidisciplinary care for pregnancies complicated by fetal or maternal medical conditions, as well as for women at high risk of massive haemorrhage. UHL is recognised as the regional host for abnormally invasive placenta service (AIP).

The unit, led by subspecialist consultants, provides training opportunities for clinical fellows. In addition to serving the local population, the Centre receives referrals from seven regional hospitals, managing complex cases involving fetal medicine, fetal surgery, and fetal cardiac malformations as part of the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre. The department supports and provides Fetal Medicine Service in Kettering through weekly sessions. The fetal medicine team plans to further expand its services with the development of in‑utero surgical services, which are currently referred to Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

The Fetal Medicine Service is currently delivered by six consultants.

The Maternal Medicine Centre provides care for women with complex medical needs from both the local population and referring hospitals. It hosts highly specialised weekly clinics covering diabetes, hypertension, haematology, cardiology, nephrology, HIV, perinatal mental health, drug misuse and preterm birth prevention. The team also includes a dedicated adult cardiologist.
