About Us
Caterpillar Marine Power UK Ltd is located on the outskirts of Wimborne on the Ferndown and Uddens Business Improvement District. Positioned centrally along the south coast, it is located close to national and international transport links.
With approximately 130 members of staff, there is a long and distinguished history spanning over 50 years of manufacturing marine propulsion and auxiliary engines under the Cat® and Perkins Marine® brands. Genset packages ranging from 1.5 Litre to 7.1 Litre and 7.1 Litre propulsion engines are produced at the Wimborne site.
The facility employs a wealth of hugely experienced designers, engineers and technicians used to providing solutions for commercial, pleasure, and military customers. From the design, testing and building, each engine is proven before leaving the premises to ensure the best performance for the end‑user.
Job Summary
An exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual with a passion for marine products to join our Engineering team and be based in Wimborne to provide input and lead projects on the Marine products. The role will cover the leadership of projects in the product engineering team, as well as being an active participant in the global team working on Marine Power products. The role will focus on leading projects and programmes for the Marine products based on the IPSD‑m platforms with the opportunity to work across the range of Marine Power Product team on a wide range of engine and genset development programs.
What You Will Do
Manages multiple or complex engineering projects involving multiple functions, organisations and products.
Main Responsibilities
* Coordinating resources across engineering, sales, product definition, supply chain and manufacturing.
* Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.
* Directing the project team; motivating and developing the project team and team members.
* Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.

Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organise, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilisation of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
* Utilises standard tools, techniques and methods for estimating project cost and time.
* Plans, estimates, organizes and monitors engineering projects, with support from the Global Project Management function.
* Identifies risks; creates contingency plans.
* Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.
* Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing project documents in various forms.
* Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the project.
* Conducts regular and ad‑hoc project reviews with the project team, sponsors, and stakeholders.
* Maintains open communication among project participants and interested parties.
* Communicates reporting requirements; creates monitoring and control mechanisms.

* Engages appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.
Product Engineering
Knowledge of product features; ability to support the teams managing the design, build, and development of new products, technologies, or services from concept through to production.
* Support the design and validation teams through the whole project lifecycle for NTI, NPI and CPI Projects.
* Assists in advising on the appropriate solutions to complex product design and development problems.
