About the role Evolve Staffing Ltd is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Consultant in General Internal Medicine to join a forward-thinking clinical team based at Hereford. This role is designed for a physician who excels in managing a wide spectrum of clinical problems, ranging from acutely ill younger patients to elderly patients presenting with complex, multiple comorbidities. As a lead clinician, you will direct treatment plans and orchestrate specialist care, ensuring high-quality inpatient and outpatient experiences within a ward-based multidisciplinary team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Diagnose and treat patients who fall outside specific medical specialties or those with complex symptoms requiring expert internal medicine intervention.
Oversee a dedicated inpatient bed base, including responsibility for medical outliers on surgical wards.
Participate in the weekend general medical on-call rota, typically on a 1 in 13 basis.
Provide clinical and educational supervision for Foundation trainees and clinical fellows, including those working towards CESR in G(I)M.
Lead weekly ward huddles, mortality and morbidity meetings, and contribute to the evolution of the department's training structure.
Actively engage in clinical governance, robust audit practices, and annual appraisals. Support recruitment to NIHR and commercial research studies.
Essential Criteria
Full GMC Registration with a License to Practise.
Must be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining Specialist Registration in General Internal Medicine at the time of interview.
MRCP or an equivalent recognised postgraduate qualification.
Proven experience in the management of both inpatient and outpatient general medical patients, with a history of participating in general medical on-calls at the Registrar or Consultant level.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team, make critical decisions under pressure, and exert appropriate authority while maintaining empathy.
Desirable Attributes
Higher degree (MD/PhD) or postgraduate qualification in teaching and training.
Proven track record of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with willingness to develop new pedagogical approaches.
History of peer‑reviewed publications or a completed thesis.
Prior management experience or specialised training in medical education.
