General Practitioner (GP) - Enhanced Access

The post holder will work as part of a team for the Primary Care Enhanced Access Service based in both Havant and Waterlooville.

The post holder will provide clinical assessment and treatment for the delivery of a safe, efficient, and reliable service. They will work closely with the Clinical Lead and Service Manager, forming links and developing relationships with secondary care, GP colleagues, and the wider healthcare community. The post holder will ensure patients receive optimal care in the correct setting. Health policies and standard operating procedures will be adhered to and, if relevant, refined.

In the planned primary care clinic, patients will undergo clinical assessment and review, examination, and appropriate investigations (e.g. x-rays, scans, blood tests); a diagnosis and management plan will then be agreed. On occasion, onward referrals to specialties may be required, and credible referrals will be expected.

The service is staffed by a team of GPs, Nurses, Paramedics, Healthcare Assistants, and non-clinical staff.

LocationTo cover Havant Health Centre and The Oaks, Waterlooville HoursWe are seeking cover for the following times: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 18:00 21:00 Saturday: 09:00 17:00 Ideally, these hours will be covered by one contracted individual; however, we are open to considering more than one applicant to ensure full cover, on either a contracted or bank basis.


Main duties of the job

You'll ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time, while contributing to the development of a high-quality, reliable service.

* Provide clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
* Request and interpret investigations (e.g. x-rays, scans, blood tests).
* Make safe and appropriate referrals to secondary care.
* Deliver emergency care when required while awaiting transfer.
* Provide clinical advice and support to colleagues.
* Contribute to teaching, training, and service improvement.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Duties

The GP will work with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriatecare is delivered in the right place, at the right time. The post holder will be expected to:

Maintainthe highest clinical standards for all patients accessing the service.

Assess,investigate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with clinical needswhich can be met by primary care ensure appropriate coding planned andopportunistically to support the delivery of QOF, LCS, DES and CQUINs.

Referto secondary care where appropriate using the appropriate referral forms andmechanisms.

Ensurerequesting of appropriate investigations and reporting on these whenrequired.

Provideemergency care while waiting for emergency transfer of patient whenappropriate.

Provideadvice and support to colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team.

Communication and WorkingRelationships

GPTeam including Clinical Team of Nurses and Paramedics, Operational Manager,and non-clinical team.

GPswithin Primary Care

SecondaryCare e.g., radiology and pathology

Widerhealthcare services

The post holder will be expected tocontribute to the development of the service.It is expected that the post holder will:

Supportto improve non-elective care pathways within the healthcare community.

Communicatewith the Governance Lead and support the delivery of a high-quality serviceand raise any governance issues that may arise.

Supportthe teaching and development of doctors, nurses, and professionals from otherdisciplines such as Emergency Care Practitioners, GP registrars in PrimaryCare Skills. This may involvepractitioners sitting in and seeing patients where appropriate.

Workwith the Service Manager to ensure training, significant events, complaints,audits, surveys, and other professional service development activities areachieved to ensure the smooth running of the service.

Maintaincontinued education through attendance at courses and/or study days asnecessary to ensure professional development requirements for on-goingprofessional registration and licensing are met.

Participatein, encourage, and support professional development within the service.

Ensurethat high clinical standards are maintained throughout the service.

Participatein annual appraisal and complete an annual personal development plan.

Complywith standard operational procedures and departmental and organisationalpolicy.

Undertakenecessary mandatory training.

Strategic Development,Planning and Organising

Activelyparticipate in both departmental and organisational matters concerningclinical governance, care pathways, team meetings and audit when required.


Person Specification


Experience

* An experienced doctor with GP accreditation
* Current registration with GMC and NHS performers list (with no conditions preventing working or restrictions on practice)
* Experience of working in primary care and urgent care environment
* Record of on-going CPD and learning
* MRCGP examination or equivalent experience
* Sound knowledge of QOF, LCS, DES, CQUINs and use of appropriate coding
* Will have an understanding of the political agenda and drivers influencing primary care provision.
* Good leadership skills with the ability to influence and negotiate.
* Good organisational and IT skills desirable
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills written, verbal (Particularly listening skills)
* Clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability.
* Good organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload.
* Good clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute Primary care presentations
* Be able to clear an enhanced DBS check.
* Must be authorised to work in the EEC.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills written, verbal (Particularly listening skills)
* Clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability.
* Good organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload.
* Good clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute Primary care presentations
* Be able to clear an enhanced DBS check.
* Ideally have knowledge of EMIS Clinical IT system
