Here at the CAMHS PICU, the nursing team will be at the heart of the unit and are central to inpatient care delivery .
You will work alongside a dedicated and robust multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality care is planned for and achieved.

Main duties of the job
As a member of the nursing team you would be supported to work collaboratively with young people and their families to build therapeutic relationships, along with other professionals involved in their care. Training and supervision is provided to develop individual and group therapeutic work. We pride ourselves on nurturing and supporting nurses to deliver professional, thoughtful, high quality compassionate nursing care when young people need it the most.
We are keen to support all nurses to develop their own leadership skill to enable them to feel competent at managing shift and team coordination and supervising junior staff. Reflection within and on practice is an essential part of development, both within groups and on an individual basis. The CAMHS PICU will have a structured weekly timetable of reflective spaces to ensure everyone has access to support and supervision to enhance their abilities and further their development.
All nurses at the CAMHS PICU will be encouraged to develop areas of specialist interest and be provided with many opportunities for research. You will be motivated and dynamic about service improvement and passionate about providing quality and creative care to adolescents.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

12. Engage proactively with young persons and their families/carers/significant others to build positive working relationships.
13. Make a systematic and comprehensive assessment/ re-assessment of patient need within the CPA framework to take account of all aspects of the young persons life, including;
oIndividual history
oStrengths, individual goals and resources
oMental state, signs and symptoms
oHealth and social care needs including factors relating to the impact of culture, race, gender, social class and lifestyle

·Develop effective risk management plans, and timely review of the risk management plan identifying opportunities for positive risk taking in conjunction with the patient, carers/significant others and the ward team.
·Actively engages with the Care Coordinator under CPA to identify appropriate resources to support the young persons care package within the hospital setting and within their local home environment including;
oHousing
oSocial welfare and income
oLeisure
oEducation
14. Contribute towards supporting family members and carers to be as involved as required in the care of the young person
15. Demonstrate knowledge of medication effects, side-effects, indications, contraindications and recommended dosage
16. To demonstrate competency in physical aspects of physical monitoring (e.g. blood pressure, blood glucose level etc)
17. Work with young persons with concordance issues and promote patient choice
18. Actively engage young persons and carers with the PALS or Advocacy service where appropriate
19. Co-ordinate and implement plans of care during the young persons journey through the inpatient environment and demonstrate clear written communication to support such plans
20. Work with young persons and their families/carers/significant others on symptom management and relapse prevention
21. Evaluate plans of care in collaboration with the patient as an ongoing process and able to make recommendations for changes in the care package
22. To model healthy eating behaviours for all young people
23. Work to develop effective multidisciplinary relationships through skilled communication with the ward and community teams
24. To convey clearly, accurately and concisely patient information to colleagues in team meetings, ward rounds, handovers and all other verbal communications
25. Following support and training to be involved in co-facilitating groups on the unit; there is a wide range available including DBT informed skills, psychodynamic groups and be involved in the development of other unit groups.
26. To work alongside the multi disciplinary team collaborating with the young person and their family or carers to develop Positive Behaviour Support plans.
