Learning Support Assistants – Durham
Protocol Education are currently recruiting Learning Support Assistants to work within a secondary school in Durham from September 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed and supportive team, working to enable all students to achieve their potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
About the role:
You will support teaching and learning across the school, working with students both in class and on a 1:1 basis to ensure they are fully engaged, progressing well, and supported emotionally and academically. You will build strong professional relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and encouraging them to reflect, regulate, and achieve.
The successful candidates will:
* Be friendly, approachable, calm, and professional in their approach
* Have experience of working with young people, ideally within an SEMH environment or with students who require additional behaviour or learning support
* Have the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, treating them with respect and consideration at all times
* Demonstrate skills in co-regulation, providing emotional safety, and aiding reflection in children and young people
* Have strong evaluative skills to interpret and respond to students’ underlying needs
* Have experience of managing pupil behaviour confidently and professionally
* Be committed to working as part of a whole school team to support the vision and aims of the school
* Show high expectations of all pupils and a commitment to raising their achievements
* Have experience working 1:1 with students or supporting small groups
* Ideally hold appropriate first aid training or be willing to undertake training
