Neuro Occupational Therapist - Surrey Downs H&C

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the Integrated Stroke and Neurorehabilitation Service within Surrey Downs Health and Care on a fixed‑term contract until 31 March 2027.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a community‑based neurorehabilitation pathway, including inpatient stroke rehabilitation, Early Supported Discharge and community neurorehabilitation for people with neurological conditions. You will manage a defined caseload, providing holistic assessment and delivering evidence‑based, person‑centred interventions to promote independence, recovery and improved quality of life.
Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to assessment, treatment planning, discharge planning and equipment provision across hospital and community settings. The post requires strong clinical reasoning skills, effective communication, and the ability to prioritise and organise workload within a dynamic service.
Please note: A valid UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes are essential for this role due to community‑based visits.
The postholder will be based in Epsom General Hospital but will also cover the inpatient stroke bed at Dorking Community Hospital in addition to outpatient clinics, home visits and care home visits across the Surrey Downs area.
Main duties of the job
* Deliver occupational therapy services within hospital and community‑based settings.
* Provide comprehensive and coordinated occupational therapy and preventative services, aiming to maintain or improve patients’ health, independence and quality of life while focusing on what matters most to the patient and their carers.
* Consolidate and further develop skills and knowledge learned through the occupational therapy course.
* Assess and implement treatment programmes as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining associated clinical records.
* Work unsupervised, reporting back and receiving guidance and teaching from the senior occupational therapist on a regular basis each week.
Qualifications
* Occupational Therapy degree
* HCPC registration
* Additional learning or courses relevant to clinical practice
* Member of RCOT
Experience
* Knowledge of stroke and neurological rehabilitation
* Experience working within a multidisciplinary team, including occupational therapy
* Awareness of the impact of clinical governance on service delivery
* Experience across the neuro pathway – acute, inpatient rehabilitation or community
* Clinical supervision of students
Skills
* Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
* Effective prioritisation and management of workload independently
* Adaptable and flexible, with a strong ability to collaborate effectively within a team
* Wheelchair assessment and prescription skills
* Teaching and presentation skills
Personal Characteristics
* Strong interpersonal skills to work with patients, carers and colleagues
* Holds a full UK driving licence with access to a car for work purposes
* Physically capable of performing required clinical duties
* Maintains a professional and presentable appearance
* Experience of working with clinical systems such as CERNER, EMIS, SystmOne
