Overview

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated clinical support worker looking for a new challenge? Do you have the skills to be part of a unique and established 24 hr service, providing urgent and unscheduled care? Are you passionate about supporting patients with a wide range of clinical needs?

We are looking for an experienced clinical assistant to work as part of the MedOCC Clinical team. The role encompasses a variety of clinical skills such as assisting with rapid review of patients, taking bloods and cannulation, along with non-clinical duties such as daily stock replenishment, equipment care and medication stock checks. This role is a non-clinical and clinical role combined.


Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the MedOCC clinical team, supporting the day to day running of the service and contributing to the highest standards of patient care. The clinical assistant will report directly to the Clinical Services Manager and will work without direct supervision whilst undertaking daily admin tasks. They will assist all members of the Clinical team, providing skilled clinical procedures, and acting on their own initiative to follow treatment plans with supervision.

Job responsibilities

To undertake highly skilled assistant support work (e.g. DVT pathway Wells Score, taking blood samples, D Dimer testing, INR tests) and reporting findings to the doctor or nurse. To observe and assist patients within the department providing first aid and basic life support as required. To be aware of the role in emergency situations and instigate emergency procedures and assistance to senior staff. Assess for appropriate treatment aids such as crutches and slings, ensuring safe use of equipment by others through teaching and demonstration. Recognise and alert clinicians to the unwell or deteriorating patient in the waiting room. Supervises junior assistants, students, work placement students and visitors to the service. Assess patient condition through basic observations, test results, and assess patient comfort.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* To undertake highly skilled assistant support work (e.g. DVT pathway Wells Score, taking blood samples, D Dimer testing, INR tests) and reporting findings to the doctor or nurse. To observe and assist patients within the department providing first aid and basic life support as required. To be aware of the role in emergency situations and instigate emergency procedures and assistance to senior staff. Assess for appropriate treatment aids such as crutches and slings, ensuring safe use of equipment by others through teaching and demonstration. Recognise and alert clinicians to the unwell patient or deteriorating patient in the waiting room. Supervises junior assistants, students, work placement students and visitors to the service. Assess patient condition through basic observations, test results, and assess patient comfort.
* NVQ Level 2 in a health or care related subject or equivalent.


Experience

* Extensive experience of working as an assistant at Band 2/3 or equivalent in a health care related environment.
* Experience of undertaking basic clinical observations.
* Experience of documenting and evidencing learning.
* Stock taking


Special knowledge/expertise

* Good understanding of Infection Prevention and Control.
* Evidence of basic knowledge of tissue viability and wound care
* Emergency, acute or primary health care experience.
* Ability to perform ECG, Bladder scan, NEWS scoring, D-Dimer
