About this Role Queen Mary’s High School, Walsall Permanent | Full-Time | 37 hours per week NJC Grade 4 (SCP 6–11): £25,989 – £28,142 per annum (pending 2026/27 pay award) Start date: As soon as possible Queen Mary’s High School is a friendly, high‑achieving and ambitious school community located in the heart of Walsall. We are seeking a hardworking, reliable and enthusiastic Caretaker to join our dedicated estates team. As part of our school’s support staff, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. You will help ensure that our buildings, grounds and facilities are maintained to a high standard and continue to reflect the pride we have in our school. About the Role As our Caretaker, you will: Assist with the maintenance, security and efficient operation of the school site Act as a key holder, opening and securing the site daily Undertake basic repairs, maintenance and decoration Support with setting up events, moving furniture and managing deliveries Carry out regular health & safety, building and site checks Contribute to grounds maintenance, cleaning duties and overall site appearance Provide a safe, clean and attractive learning environment for all Respond to emergencies such as callouts, alarms, leaks or break‑ins Training will be provided for key areas such as first aid, legionella monitoring and PAT testing. About You We are looking for someone who is: Self‑motivated, reliable and flexible Able to prioritise workload and work independently Practical, organised and solution‑focused A strong communicator with good interpersonal skills Committed to maintaining a safe school environment Keen to learn new skills and undertake relevant training Supportive of the values and ethos of Queen Mary’s High School Experience in a similar role or knowledge of health & safety procedures is desirable but not essential.
