Interim Transport Officer
Location: Leicestershire Area – Glenfield
Duration: Until end of September 2025 (initially)
Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)
Rate: per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Working Arrangement: Hybrid (onsite once every fortnight)
About the Role:
Venn Group is currently supporting a local authority in the Leicestershire area with the recruitment of an Interim Transport Officer. This vital role supports the coordination of school transport services.
The successful candidate will play a key role in planning, organising, and managing daily transport operations
Key Responsibilities:
To ensure the effective and efficient planning and procurement of passenger transport services both manually and using available ICT systems
Deliver a programme of efficiency reviews of other aspects of the service, including the purchase of season tickets and the provision of transport for ‘fare paying’ passengers
Assist with liaison and notification of current standards with/to in-house fleet management and to external contractors
Assist with guidance on the usage, maintenance and record management of Service Responsibilities specialist equipment for carriage of passengers on contracted services
Ensure vehicles are properly licensed and insured appropriately by the contractor, maintaining administrative procedures as appropriate
To assist with the provision of training courses for Clients, Contractor, Private Hire Operators and internal staff as required
To co-ordinate inspections of contract time-keeping, contract operation and other matters relevant to the County’s duties in respect of passenger transport
Maintain up to date and accurate records, including control and maintenance of the Transport Databases and all Transport related manual systems and the provision of timely and accurate Management Information
To assist in developing/maintaining business processes
To assist in the effective organisation of transport activities and vehicles, including the planning of the annual review and re-allocation of school transport in the period leading up to each autumn term as required
To assist in the development and collection of data and statistics relating to all passenger services
To communicate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders and service users and their representatives when required, written and verbally, including complaints
Strong administrative and data management skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Outlook)
Previous experience within a transport organisation is desirable
Excellent communication and coordination skills, especially via email
Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
