Blue Marine's Mission
Blue Marine Foundation (Blue Marine) seeks to protect and restore life in the ocean. Our mission is to see at least 30 per cent of the ocean protected by 2030 and the whole ocean sustainably managed. We support low-impact fishing and equitable use of the ocean and address overfishing – one of the world’s biggest environmental challenges. We are a dynamic NGO at the heart of cutting-edge marine conservation with headquarters in London but operating globally.
The Role
Blue Marine is seeking an Outreach and Engagement Officer to join our Scotland team in a brand new role. The successful candidate will work to connect marine science, education and outreach – directly contributing to the protection of Scotland’s marine environment and coastal communities. Based within Blue Marine's Scotland team, and working closely with our central Education Unit, you will help deliver Blue Marine’s education, outreach and engagement strategy across Scotland.
This role will be critical in raising public awareness and building community and political support for sustainable inshore fisheries management and the protection of Scotland's MPAs and Priority Marine Features. The role will use creative educational tools and engagement activities to bring marine conservation to life for schools, communities and decision makers. You’ll help to maximise public awareness and participation in the protection of Scotland’s vital marine habitats and ecosystems, to properly protect them alongside support for low impact, sustainable and equitable use of Scotland’s seas.
This role will require a full, clean driver’s license and access to your own vehicle due to the associated travel, in addition to the appropriate background checks for your audience.
Blue Marine hopes the successful candidate can start in November to ensure we capitalise on key inshore marine protection opportunities.
