We’re looking for a compassionate and caring Maternity Support Worker with a passion to be a key part of the patient care journey at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Our Maternity Support Workers take pride in their essential work, going the extra mile for patients and their families, delivering high-quality, patient-focused care.
The role is based at the Wythenshawe site and involves working with the Elective Caesarean Section Team. Responsibilities include providing pre- and post-operative care to families whose babies are born via Caesarean Section.
You’ll communicate sensitively and compassionately with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team, working flexibly across day and night shifts, 7 days a week.
Main Duties of the Job
* Assist the nursing team in delivering high standards of patient care under supervision, following Trust guidelines and protocols.
* Perform blood tests on mothers and babies.
* Support midwives with administrative tasks such as ordering blood tests, preparing booking packs, and homebirth packs.
* Maintain a clean environment, restock and order equipment, and utilize IT systems including HIVE.
* Communicate effectively with women and their families, both in person and over the phone.
On the Job Training Opportunities
If you are new to healthcare, you will be supported through our Support Worker Development Programme for Maternity Support Workers, which can lead to progression into a Band 3 role. Experienced workers will undergo a skills analysis, with support provided to fill any knowledge gaps through relevant clinical modules.
