Applications are invited for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Surgical First Assistant (SFA) to join our expanding Orthopaedic surgical team, which includes Physician Assistants, Orthopaedic Surgical Trainees, and Clinical Fellows.
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the team, providing high-quality, patient-focused, continuous, and competent surgical assistance to the Orthopaedic operating surgeons under their direct supervision, without performing any surgical interventions. They should have expertise in Orthopaedic practice, demonstrating the knowledge required to practice safely, effectively, and efficiently.
The role is primarily intraoperative, but the candidate will also join the operating surgeon during pre- and post-operative visits to enhance their clinical knowledge.
About the Department
The Golden Jubilee University National Hospital Orthopaedic department is one of the largest Arthroplasty units in the UK, with 24 orthopaedic Consultants, including specialists in foot and ankle surgery and hand/wrist surgery. The department performs approximately 4,000 primary and revision joint replacements and over 500 other elective procedures annually. The Foot and Ankle Unit handles over 600 elective orthopaedic procedures each year, including total ankle replacements.
Facilities
* Seven laminar flow theatres available Monday to Friday, with two routinely on Saturdays.
* An additional non-laminar flow theatre for foot & ankle, hand & wrist, and soft tissue knee surgery.
* Further theatre expansion is planned with three additional laminar flow theatres coming into use.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have completed an accredited Surgical First Assistant Programme, Parts 1 and 2 (Extended Skills), and have at least one year of previous Orthopaedic experience as a Surgical First Assistant.
