The Opportunity

The post is a Rail Civils Design Engineer working within a multidisciplinary team delivering a portfolio of exciting, varied rail projects as part of a growing Rail Business. Your work will include producing preliminary and detailed engineering layouts, technical studies and reports, generation and evaluation of technical design options, design calculations and analysis, specialised report writing and interfacing with other disciplines.

You will also be responsible for providing civil engineering design capability to railway projects, and to provide civil engineering skills and technical knowledge of railway design within an environment of high quality and timeliness.

Your role will include the production of conceptual and detailed railway designs and calculations within single discipline and multidisciplinary rail projects across all design stages. The ideal candidate will manage risks during the design process within your own discipline, liaising with relevant parties. You will support the Rail Civils CRE in technical forums such as IDCs, Design and Construction Interface meetings and design reviews and will likely undertake client-facing roles. Designs will be produced using Bentley software, Common Data Environments, and relevant legislation, regulations, standards, codes of practice and guidelines.

* Able to work under nominal supervision and supervise more junior staff.
* Committed to quality, accuracy, timeliness and efficiency in delivering engineering technical requirements.
* Experience in the application of CDM and CSM or equivalent on railway projects.

Desirable Skills / Knowledge

* Competent in providing project documentation to different clients to meet requirements.
* Knowledge of route alignment, drainage, signalling layout, formation and structural principles and design would be a benefit.
