Principal Criminal Litigation Lawyer (Locum)
Full‑time locum appointment supporting a well‑regarded local authority’s legal team in Central England.
Duration: 3 months initially, likely extension. Working pattern: Hybrid.
Key responsibilities include providing legal advice and representation to Members and Officers on criminal and regulatory matters, advocating before Magistrates’ Courts and First‑tier Tribunals, managing a criminal litigation caseload and drafting legal documents, attending Licensing Committees and Sub‑Committees to provide legal guidance, and deputising for the Principal Lawyer and supporting junior lawyers.
* Strong post‑qualification experience in criminal litigation within a local authority.
* Proven advocacy experience before courts and tribunals.
* Ability to manage a demanding caseload and work effectively under pressure.
* Prior supervisory or team leadership experience (desirable).
