We are looking for a practical and reliable Facilities Officer to support the day‑to‑day operation of our council buildings. The role involves providing caretaking services, ensuring the safety and security of premises, and carrying out a range of maintenance and operational tasks. This is a varied position that requires flexibility, problem‑solving, and the ability to work independently. Key Responsibilities Maintain the security and safety of council buildings as part of the facilities team. Act as a key holder and respond to call‑outs when required. Carry out routine operational maintenance of mechanical and electrical plant. Liaise with contractors and supervise work, including outside normal office hours. Monitor building cleanliness and supervise cleaning staff during late shifts. Support room bookings, including setting up spaces and checking audio‑visual equipment. Assist with office and equipment moves. Undertake minor repairs, waste disposal, recycling, and general housekeeping tasks. Maintain external grounds and ensure pathways are kept safe and clear of hazards such as ice, snow, leaves, and debris. Act as a named first‑aider (training provided if needed). Follow all health and safety requirements. About You We're looking for someone who: Has experience in a similar facilities, caretaking, or maintenance role. Understands building operations, including drainage, water supply, mechanical and electrical systems, and grounds maintenance. Can work flexibly, including early mornings, evenings, and call‑outs. Is comfortable working independently and managing workload under pressure. Can supervise cleaning staff when required. Is able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and move equipment. Has basic IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel). Has a first-aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training). In the Facilities team you will be looking after the whole site and beyond, attention to detail is important as well as the ability to think for yourself and act quickly when the need arises.
