We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.
The Role
As the aviation industry regulator, the CAA has a duty to maintain a high standard of safety in the provision of air traffic services, developing air traffic management (ATM) requirements that are both effective and reflect the ever-evolving technological landscape.
As an Airspace & ATM Policy Specialist, you will influence, develop and maintain those regulatory requirements relating to the safety of air traffic services and provide specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders. Specific responsibilities will include:
* Employing safety risk analysis methodologies to support the development and collation of safety and assurance evidence that demonstrates that changes to ATM requirements introduced by the CAA are acceptably safe.
* Collation and analysis of safety intelligence information to inform the future development of regulatory requirements relating to air traffic services.
* Responsibility for the human factors and safety management system requirements for air traffic services providers to ensure that they continue to reflect good practise, taking note of developments from ICAO and other international bodies.
About You
Essential – The post holder will:
* Have knowledge and experience of safety management systems and human factors in an operational ATM context.
* Hold a Level 6 (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) or Level 9 (in Scotland) qualification in a related field, or be able to demonstrate relevant industrial experience.
* Be open-minded with a strong analytical approach and ability to interpret complex, technical information to inform the development of novel solutions.
* Be able to communicate difficult technical and/or operational concepts fluently, clearly and concisely and write technical papers in a logical and structured manner.
* Have strong networking and communication skills that will enable you to engage with and influence partners at all levels nationally and internationally.
* Possess high levels of commitment, reliability and flexibility with a proven ability to collaborate within a deeply technical multi-disciplinary environment.
* Be able to work proactively, taking responsibility for their work, with experience of leading small teams of technical experts to achieve specific objectives.
Desirable – The post holder should:
* Be either a licensed air traffic controller or ex-military air traffic controller.
* A working knowledge of national and international organisations which relate to ATM (e.g. ICAO) and how these might affect the UK.
* Have knowledge of the Specific Operating Risk Assessment (SORA) ‘air risk’ model.
Additional Information
For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
