Role Overview
We are seeking a senior laboratory professional to take operational and strategic responsibility for a specialist analytical laboratory. The role includes oversight of all laboratory systems — with particular responsibility for ICP-based analysis— alongside business development, market positioning, and long-term planning.
This role has clear potential to progress to Managing Director.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Systems & Operations
* Overall responsibility for laboratory operations and analytical performance
* Oversight and management of ICP-OES / ICP-MS systems
* Monitoring, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical equipment
* Quality control, data integrity, and system reliability across all laboratory methods
Technical Leadership
* Senior technical authority within the laboratory
* Development and enforcement of analytical protocols
* Oversight of method development and service expansion
Business & Strategy
* Development of laboratory services and market positioning
* Contribution to marketing strategy and customer engagement
* Development and ownership of a 5-year laboratory business plan
* Strategic planning for growth, capability, and investment
Required Experience
* Senior experience in an analytical laboratory environment
* Strong hands-on experience with ICP instrumentation
* Proven responsibility for laboratory systems and analytical quality
* Ability to combine technical oversight with commercial awareness
Desirable
* Experience in soil, plant, environmental, or biological analysis
* Experience in senior, lead, or director-level laboratory roles
* Strategic or commercial responsibility within a technical business

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £30.00-£50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 4 – 8 per week
