To provide professionalEnvironmental, Health and Safety (EHS)expertiseand governance, ensuring the safe,compliantand sustainable operation of the Ensus site.
To support and drive delivery of theEHS Management System, ensuring alignment with COMAH regulations, Environmental Permit requirements and site standards.
To act as a key advisor to Operations, Engineering and Leadership teams, promoting aSafety Firstculture, supporting risk management and continuous improvement across the site.
Line Manager
This role reports to theEHSManager.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Leadership & Support
* Act as a visible EHS presence on site, supporting and challenging safe behaviours.
* Promote and embed a strong Safety First culture aligned to site and group expectations.
* Support line management in delivering SQPCD objectives, with a focus on safety and compliance.
* Deputise for the EHS Manager as required.
Process Safety & Risk Management
* Lead and support risk assessments across the site (operations, maintenance and projects).
* Support delivery and continuous improvement of the Process Safety Management (PSM) framework.
* Review and approve:
* Method Statements (RAMS)
* Maintain and improve:
* COSHH assessments and chemical inventory
* Confined Space Rescue Plans
* Support hazard identification and risk reduction activities across the plant.
Incident Investigation & Learning
* Lead and support incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring:
* Effective corrective actions
* Support development and delivery of safety alerts and communications.
* Drive sharing of learning across the site and group.
Training, Competence & Communication
* Own and deliver the Ensus EHS induction programme, ensuring content is current and effective.
* Define and coordinate EHS training programmes, including Life Saving Rules.
* Manage EHS training systems and course content.
* Work with HR and leadership to ensure competency alignment across roles.
* Deliver and support EHS communications, briefings and engagement sessions.
* Act as focal point for environmental compliance and sustainability(Advisor level ownership where appropriate).
* Ensure compliance with:
* Lead or coordinate:
* Waste-water and waste-gas inventory updates
* Waste reporting and returns
* Sustainability reporting (CropEnergies)
* Conduct inspections of:
* Waste storage and segregation
* Support emissions monitoring and environmental testing programmes.
Regulatory Compliance & External Interface
* Support preparation for and participation in regulator inspections (HSE, Environment Agency).
* Maintain and support:
* Legal register
* Compliance frameworks
* Issue required reports to regulators (e.g. EA Part A reports).
* Act as technical point of contact for environmental and waste-related queries.
Audits, Inspections & Assurance
* Conduct and support:
* Site inspections
* LSR inspections
* SUSA conversations
* Support audits of the EHS and management systems.
* Track and ensure closure of audit and inspection actions.
* Provide assurance on compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
Contractor & Work Control Support
* Review and approve contractor documentation (RAMS, safety plans).
* Support safe setup and management of:
* Shutdown activities
* Support compliance with:
* Site safety standards
Systems, Reporting & Governance
* Produce and maintain:
* Monthly EHS KPIs and reports
* Safety communications and notices
* Support development and update of:
* EHS procedures
* Management system documentation
* Ensure systems are:
* Accurate
* Audit ready
Emergency Response
* Provide support within the Falck Emergency Control Center during incidents.
* Support planning and execution of emergency drills and exercises.
Skills, Qualifications, Competence Level
* NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) or equivalent
* Experience in EHS roles within high-hazard industries (e.g. COMAH, petrochemical, energy)
* Strong knowledge of:
* Health & Safety legislation
* Environmental compliance requirements
* Experience in:
* Audit and inspection processes
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
* Environmental degree or relevant experience
* Membership of professional body (IOSH / ISEP)
* ISEP qualification (or equivalent)
* Experience working on an Upper Tier COMAH site
* Experience with:
* Environmental reporting and permitting
* Sustainability reporting
* PSM frameworks
