Description Job Description Are you looking for an opportunity to be at the heart of a fast-moving policy agenda making a real difference for families across Scotland? The Tackling Child Poverty Policy Unit are seeking a Child Poverty Local Support and Engagement Officer who can work with passion, pace and purpose to deliver on the First Minister’s key priority to eradicate child poverty and provide high quality support to Ministers. You will have the opportunity help deliver the priorities of the Unit and meaningfully engage stakeholders to inform and develop effective policy. The Tackling Child Poverty Policy Unit leads on cross government work to tackle child poverty and meet the ambitious targets set in statute by the Child Poverty (Scotland) Act 2017. This is a national mission and, as such, this fast-moving policy area attracts a great deal of Parliamentary, media and stakeholder interest. In the year ahead the unit will lead engagement on and development of the next Tackling Child Poverty Delivery Plan, you will have chance to work within a supportive team to develop understanding of complex issues and deliver a joined-up approach to social policy. Responsibilities Provide high quality support to Ministers and senior officials on tackling child poverty, including briefings. To support development of high quality relationships with a range of external stakeholder and with policy colleagues across SG. Support cross-government working and briefing to ensure a strategic, whole-government support to eradicating child poverty. Supporting development of the next Tackling Child Poverty Delivery Plan, for the period 2026-31, which will require wide ranging consultation and engagement across the public sector and civil society. This will include involvement in the early stakeholder engagement planning and delivery. Support work across the unit in preparing statutory annual progress reports on child poverty (by end June each year), support the coordination of input from across SG portfolios and lead policy officials. Support engagement with external partners supporting local action on child poverty, specifically the National Partners Group and contribute to effective oversight of Improvement Service, Poverty Alliance and SPIRU workplans and delivery of key objectives.
