We are looking for a Senior Lead Power Systems Studies Engineer to support the Green Energy transition. This role involves leading concept studies for high voltage transmission projects across North and South Europe, working closely with engineering teams to develop solutions that meet client needs and Grid Code requirements. After project approval, you will manage external teams conducting electrical system studies, validate their work, and act as the main technical contact for clients.
The North and South Europe Grid System Integration (GSI) team delivers a wide range of high voltage transmission projects, including the connection of new & grid stability projects, and is looking for a Power Systems Studies Engineer to join the team.
Job Description
Role Overview:
The Grid System Integration (GSI) business team is a turnkey project business that works with internal and external partners to engineer, procure, construct, and commission projects related to bulk electrical power transmission and grid management. These projects typically include:
* New high voltage transmission substations.
* Expansion and reinforcement of existing substations and networks.
* On and Offshore substations for windfarm connections and renewable technologies.
* Network stability and compensation projects.
* Energy storage projects.
Responsibilities:
This role involves developing solutions from first principles or conducting electrical studies to ensure designs meet parameters, supporting both at Tender and Delivery stages. Key tasks include:
* Understanding customer power system requirements, constraints, and standards.
* Developing initial system architecture and advising customers.
* Performing load-flow studies using tools like PowerFactory DIgSILENT.
* Conducting RAM studies to meet client expectations.
* Collaborating with mechanical-electrical teams for cost-effective designs.
* Managing third-party resources for detailed studies, validating their work.
* Engaging with customers to communicate solutions and address queries.
During project delivery, support the full suite of electrical studies to confirm grid code compliance, including:
* Identifying necessary studies and coordinating with sourcing teams.
* Managing external consultants and validating their work.
* Maintaining communication with customers regarding studies and approvals.
* Ensuring alignment between power system design and practical implementation.
Requirements:
* MSc in Power Systems Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Over 7 years of electrical study experience on high voltage transmission systems.
* Knowledge of Load Flow, Reactive Power, Short Circuit Calculations, Harmonics, Reliability Studies, and Insulation Coordination.
* Proficiency with analysis tools like PSSE, PowerFactory DIgSILENT, PSCAD.
* Experience with RAM studies software such as ReliaSoft - BlockSIM.
* Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
Desired Characteristics:
* Deep understanding of power transmission and grid operation, standards like UK Grid Code, IEC, IEEE.
* Ability to discuss complex topics with clients and propose solutions.
* Capability to bridge theoretical studies and practical design, guiding engineering teams.
* Strong teamwork, communication, self-management, and adaptability skills.
