Musculoskeletal Oncology Locally Employed Doctor / Clinical Fellowship

We are delighted to invite applications for a Clinical Fellow in Musculoskeletal Oncology commencing from August 2026 for 12 months.
This Oswestry Musculoskeletal Oncology Clinical Fellowship post is designed to accommodate a CT3/ST3 clinical fellowship doctor with a view to supporting advancement into orthopaedic training. A doctor who has completed or is completing their MRCS will contribute to the provision of MSK oncology orthopaedic surgery within the Trust. The Fellowship can be designed around the training needs of the successful applicant.
Main duties of the job
The Musculoskeletal Tumour Service at RJAH is one of the five Bone Sarcoma units commissioned by NHS England. It provides a comprehensive service in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumours, and also offers a metastatic bone service as part of the Greater Manchester and Oswestry Sarcoma Service (GMOSS) alongside The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
Job responsibilities
* Assist in theatre lists, with potential for access to other theatre lists to extend your experience in orthopaedics.
* Assessment of new patients, with consultant supervision.
* Clerk admissions where required and be the primary responsible middle grade doctor for the day‑to‑day care of in‑patients.
* Attendance to ward rounds with senior fellow and specialist nurses.
* Assist with any other aspects of patient care as appropriate.
* Support in surgical planning, and assist in clinic preparation and MDT duties.
* Participate in audit and research.
Rota / Working hours
Duties will be Monday to Friday with time flexibility required within a normal working day. There is no hospital on‑call requirement with this post.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current and active GMC registration with licence to practice and no restrictions.
Experience, Skills and Competencies
* Experience working in an acute orthopaedic setting.
* Demonstrated basic general surgery and orthopaedic surgery competence to the level of core surgical training.
* Competence in managing the care of a deteriorating patient.
* Ability to provide basic pre‑operative and post‑operative care.
Training
* Comprehensive general medical training to meet specialty doctor entry requirements.
Academic Achievement and Research
* Evidence of engagement in teaching.
* Evidence of publication or presentations.
Audit, Clinical Governance, IT Usage
* Evidence of personally conducted research and/or clinical audit.
* Evidence of understanding of principles of clinical governance and routine computer and internet usage.
Attributes
* Good rapport with patients and communication skills; ability to work under pressure; team working and ability to organise resources effectively.
* Caring attitude to patients, honesty, reliability and ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues.
