The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, with responsibility for an annual budget of over £10bn, the Army is a major part of the Ministry of Defence and one of its largest operating centres who employ around 12,000 Civil Servants located at over 300 locations supporting the 110K regular and reserve soldiers across the Army. This Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff.
Headquarters South-West (HQSW) formed as a stand-alone Regional Point of Command (RPoC) and comprises of a fully integrated staff including regular army, civil service, Full Time Reservists (FTRS) and part time Reservists. Together we look after the Army's interests in the seven counties of the south-west including the Isles of Scilly and Channel Islands. Centred around the Four Pillars of 'UK (United Kingdom) Operations' 'The Firm Base' 'Engagement' and 'Cadets,' the breadth of our responsibilities is wide and varied, from assurance of the Field Army to response and command of UK Resilience Operations, all tasks that underpin the success of our Army on operations. Finally, our largest annual output is the delivery of the largest outdoor youth activity in the UK, Ten Tors.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week., Working within a fast paced team you will be responsible for managing and processing of Information Communications Systems (ICS) Change, including staffing new requirements within the south West area of responsibility. Acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in support of requests received from the Service Personnel.
Responsibilities include but are not restricted to
+ Principle Point of Contact for Units within your Area of Responsibility (AoR), providing Direction and Guidance for the submission and management of all ICS change
+ Liaise with the Regional Command IS branch over the authorisation and management of changes requiring higher formation approval
+ Engage with Units and Headquarters Regional Command IS for the delivery and management of all ICS change within the AoR
+ Deliver Tasking Orders as directed by Regional Command
+ Point of Contact for Unit Authorised Demanders for advice and direction
+ Action Requests for Change using the One Page Business Case
+ Scrutinise and review all requests submitted through ICS catalogue, approving / rejecting and recording as appropriate
Person specification
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can work without direction from their Line Manager. You will be able to identify and undertake work in priority order.
Keeping up to date with publications relating to all aspects of the Communication and Information Technology etc is vital, proactively reviewing newer versions once published is crucial.
An organised practical approach to each working day is important to ensure you work methodically through the Group Mailbox responding as appropriate to each new email remaining mindful of GDPR at all times.
