Contract – Fixed Term – 31st March 2028 with likelihood of extension.

Are you passionate about giving every child the best possible start in life? Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Early Years Additional Needs (AN) Support Officer to join our Inclusion team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to children aged 0–4 years with additional needs and to support their families, particularly during the critical first 1,000 days of life.


About the Role

* Support children aged 0–4 with identified or emerging additional learning needs and/or medical needs.
* Work directly with childcare settings and families to promote inclusive practice and positive outcomes.
* Deliver advice and guidance, coaching and professional learning to childcare providers, parents and professionals.
* Undertake observations and assessments to identify support strategies to meet need.
* Support smooth transitions into childcare and education settings.
* Coordinate and contribute to multi‑agency planning and Early Years AN panels.
* Help families access the right support at the right time through strong partnership working.
* Promote early identification, prevention and child development through community engagement and professional guidance.


We are looking for someone who

* Has a Level 3 qualification in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, CACHE Early Years and Childcare Diploma Level 3, Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent.
* Has experience supporting young children under 5 with additional needs in childcare, education or community settings.
* Has excellent understanding of child development, safeguarding and inclusive practice.
* Has a good understanding of the legislative framework for ALN in Wales.
* Can build strong relationships with families, childcare settings and partner agencies.
* Is creative, compassionate and solution‑focused in supporting children’s individual needs.
* Has strong communication, observation and report‑writing skills.
* Can work independently whilst also contributing positively within a team environment.

Welsh Language

Welsh language skills are desirable for this role. We welcome applications from Welsh speakers and learners.


Special Requirements

* Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
* Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends and twilight sessions as required.
