An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our road maintenance team situated in the Cumbernauld area of North Lanarkshire, working with a variety of partners, customers, and clients on the delivery of a professional service that maximises resources and delivers positive outcomes.
You will be responsible for management of the Council’s roads assets, ensuring your team manages the Council’s Capital Works Program which will include carriageway resurfacing, footway refurbishment, surface dressing works, VRS replacement, drainage improvements maintenance. This role also includes managing the statutory roads inspection and assessment regime and ensuring your team deals with safety defects and any reactive day-to-day work. You will also ensure your team performs statutory duties under the Roads Scotland Act and you will ensure all road works within your area are carried out in compliance with the NRSWA.
With an HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or relevant subject and ideally with Incorporated Membership of a relevant Institution, you will have substantial knowledge and experience in a relevant field. You must have a proven track record of delivering projects and service priorities, including the ability to achieve project milestones and targets. You must be able to demonstrate proven experience of developing successful working relationships with contractors and professional service providers and in NEC contract management. You will have demonstrable experience in asset management and planning, tracking, and communicating progress on projects. You will also have capital and revenue budgetary experience including preparation, monitoring and control arrangements.
You will be business and customer focused with a demonstrable record of, identifying opportunities, achieving outcomes, managing change, and exercising strong leadership skills. You will be self-motivated with a flexible and collaborative approach to work and have the ability to cope with multiple and changing demands whilst meeting tight deadlines. You will also have a sound understanding and knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice and initiatives.
With excellent organisational and IT skills, you will be able to utilise various Microsoft Office packages and be a clear written and verbal communicator when dealing with Councillor, MP/MSP or enquiries from members of the public, with the ability to analyse information and produce reports and with experience of presenting information in public forums.
You will be joining a dynamic and flexible team within Community Operations, who currently operate an agile model of home-working and office-based work at locations within North Lanarkshire. You will be required to travel throughout North Lanarkshire to undertake the duties of this post.
