At NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) we are a kind of service that saves and improves lives. We have a unique opportunity to join our service within Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation (OTDT) as a Senior Product Manager- Clinical.
In this role, you will be responsible for leading and managing the safe and effective delivery of technology product change into the live service environment. You will design and develop major technology products within their domain, ensuring solutions meet requirements of all stakeholders
Main duties of the job
You will:
1. Provide critical specialist knowledge of the technology within their product domain to support the entire software delivery lifecycle (requirements, design, development & testing).
2. Require a current Nursing Midwifery Council registration with a deep clinical understanding of the OTDT pathways. You will possess an excellent breadth of knowledge of the OTDT technology landscape, supporting the effective capture of all demand from stakeholders and regulators and ensuring appropriate solutions are prioritised and progressed into delivery in line with the needs of the business.
3. You will have excellent product management skills, user acceptance testing skills and have a thorough clinical and technical understanding of the existing OTDT technology products and current architecture. They will be responsible for executing the strategic direction of OTDT technology within the clinical setting through successfully delivering the product backlog and leading user acceptance testing for new developments. They will actively contribute to the product domain vision, demand management process, product solutions, backlog, business change & integrated change roadmap by championing improved ways of working (e.g. Agile & DevOps).
4. Be responsible for the technology domain at the various relevant forums e.g. product and project boards, Scrum of Product Owners (SoPOs) which have the purpose of controlling changes to OTDT technology. The post holder will have excellent planning & highly developed communication skills, leading conversations with internal and external stakeholders. Operating with a high degree of clinical autonomy, acting as the final decision-maker for the clinical product domain and holding delegated authority to commit significant resources and make binding clinical commitments on behalf of the organisation. Acting as the principal representative for the clinical product domain at national and cross-organisational forums (e.g., Organ Advisory Groups, NHS England, NICE), engaging with senior clinicians, NHS partners, and regulatory bodies to influence clinical policy, strategy, and funding decisions.
5. Developing and delivering communication strategies for major clinical transformation programmes, including crisis communications during incidents, ensuring clarity and sensitivity for all audiences. They will gain cooperation for technology products to be implemented and adapt styles of communication for stakeholders with varying knowledge of the technology. Stakeholders include architects, business analysts, developers and senior managers, transplant surgeons and physicians, nurses, H&I staff and technical staff in hospital trusts.
6. Support the Lead Product Manager to manage a budget of more than £k and provide close coaching, mentoring and guidance and supervision to Product Managers & Associate Product Managers within the team. Senior Product Managers are also expected to have direct management responsibility as shown on the organisation chart. The post-holder will have delegated budgetary responsibility for negotiating the content, funding and cross-charging of projects with a value of up to £k in any quarter, forming agreements with senior operational stakeholders and ensuring recovery of the funds.
7. Provide subject matter expertise to other domains or projects across the business where critical change to OTDT technology is involved, therefore a dependency is placed on the Product Management Team’s product specialist knowledge. The postholder will need to use their communication skills to address resistance to highly complex, critical changes, including building trust with internal and external stakeholders, and fostering engagement.
8. Be responsible for directing and producing specialist training in a safety critical context.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
9. Experience leading user acceptance testing for technology change
10. Have extensive knowledge & technical understanding of the OTDT technology application landscape and architecture
11. Current understanding of developments within the wider NHS including benchmarking with similar products & services
12. Experience of delivering change for large-scale complex technology change in the public sector
13. Experience managing demand of new and existing products and services in an agile environment.
14. Expert in defining & communicating outcomes to be met by a product area and it’s related services, whether these are user needs, technical requirements or business related outcomes.
15. Experience in championing and implementing changes that foster a culture of continuous improvement
16. Expertise in working with teams and stakeholders to define user stories with suitable acceptance criteria, key performance indicators (KPIs) and associated performance metrics and measures.
17. Experience in defining and maintaining iterative product roadmaps, feature or development backlogs and release plans in order to meet clearly defined outcomes.
18. Expertise in communicating ideas clearly and persuasively to diverse audience groups using multiple remote and face-to-face methods
19. Expertise in producing clear written & visual communications and oral presentations about product- or service-related decisions and priorities
20. Experience in delivering difficult messages (e.g. implications of delivery issues, risks or trade-offs) in an appropriate & professional way to senior stakeholders.
21. Expertise in forming productive working relationships with colleagues at all levels and within a complex structure
Qualifications and Training
22. Current Nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
23. Educated to a Masters’ degree level OR equivalent extensive training / experience in a relevant field
24. Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD)
