Consultant Psychiatrist - Female Acute (Part Time)

We are seeking an experienced part-time / any 3 days per week Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Woking and provide senior medical cover on Kahlo Ward, our 11-bed female mental health Acute service.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required. They will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance with GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.

This role involves using your expertise to drive life-changing treatment, fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and a first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.


Main duties of the job

Cygnet Hospital Woking is a 62-bed service providing a range of mental health services for men and women. This role will focus on providing psychiatric care to patients on Kahlo Ward, our 11-bed female mental health Acute service.

The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for women experiencing an acute episode of mental illness requiring emergency admission. Our ethos emphasizes assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely manner.

We support service users in managing their mental health, reinforcing daily living skills, and preparing for independent life back in the community.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician with overall medical responsibility for patient treatment plans, liaising closely with the multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, and social workers.

You will be expected to act as a positive role model, demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors, and staff.

You will be the driving force for life-changing treatment, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

Key duties and responsibilities

* Lead the provision of high-quality care to Kahlo Ward service users
* Act as a positive role model, demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
* Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations
* Undertake investigations, diagnosis, and treatment
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews, and clinical audits
* Lead risk assessments, risk management, and embed clinical governance
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and hearings
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfers and leave approvals
* Maintain accurate patient records
* Communicate regularly with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
* Engage with patients, relatives, staff, and other stakeholders, providing appropriate reports
* Participate in academic meetings and adhere to professional standards for CPD as set by GMC, DoH, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists
* Contribute to a 1:6 telephone on-call rota
