Job Title: Support Worker

Role Purpose
To prepare and serve nutritious, high-quality meals for hostel residents, ensuring dietary needs are met in a safe, clean, and inclusive kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
Service
* Prepare and serve a light midday meal and a two-course evening meal for up to 27 residents.
* Ensure all meals are nutritious, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
* Accommodate additional meal requests as needed.
* Support service users in their own environment
* Promote service users' independence
Food Safety & Hygiene
* Comply with Wirral Council’s “Safer Food, Better Business” guidelines.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and surrounding areas.
* Implement and follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
Kitchen Operations
* Order and manage food supplies and kitchen-related goods.
* Monitor stock levels, including donated and purchased items.
* Source quality ingredients from local suppliers.
* Minimise food waste and implement a waste reduction plan.
Resident Engagement
* Liaise with residents to understand and accommodate religious, cultural, and dietary requirements.
* Collaborate with staff to ensure meals support residents’ wellbeing.
Team Collaboration
* Work closely with the Hostel Manager, Key Workers, and Support Staff.
* Report any concerns regarding residents to the appropriate staff promptly.
* Participate in regular supervision, training, and team meetings.
Volunteer & Trainee Support
* Supervise and support volunteers and work experience trainees in the kitchen.
* Ensure all individuals working in the kitchen follow health and safety protocols.
* Identify and communicate training needs to the Hostel Manager.
