Role Overview The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing financial control, ensuring statutory compliance, and maintaining the integrity of financial reporting across the Group’s legal entities. This role plays a key leadership function within the finance team, acting as the technical and operational foundation of Group Finance, while enabling the Group Finance Manager to focus on strategic priorities, business growth, and forward-looking financial planning. This is a hands-on leadership role within a fast-growing, multi-entity organisation, requiring adaptability and strong technical expertise to support businesses at varying stages of development. Responsibilities: Group Financial Control & Reporting · Own and deliver the Group month-end close and consolidation across all entities · Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent management and statutory reporting · Maintain robust balance sheet control, including reconciliations and reviews · Oversee intercompany accounting, including agreements, recharges, and eliminations · Prepare and review Group cash flow reporting and balance sheet forecasts Statutory Accounts, Audit & Compliance · Lead the preparation and delivery of statutory accounts for all Group entities · Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, advisors, and HMRC · Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, company law, VAT, and tax requirements · Develop and maintain Group accounting policies and technical position papers · Ensure all new and dormant entities remain fully compliant at all times Group Structure, Growth and New Entity Set-Up · Support the set-up of new trading entities, including chart of accounts, accounting policies, systems, and processes · Ensure the finance infrastructure is scalable, controlled, and consistent as the Group grows · Provide technical input into Group structure decisions, including intercompany arrangements and funding flows Systems, Processes & Controls · Design, implement, and embed robust Group finance processes and controls · Improve efficiency through process standardisation and automation · Ensure strong documentation of procedures and controls across the Group · Support the development, optimisation, and integration of finance systems Team Leadership & Development · Provide day-to-day leadership and technical oversight to Management Accountants, apprentices, and junior staff · Act as a technical mentor and key escalation point within the finance team · Support capability building and succession planning within Group Finance Business & Board Support · Provide high-quality financial insight to the Group Finance Manager, CEO, and Board · Support ad hoc projects, including business growth initiatives, funding, refinancing or restructuring, and due diligence and acquisition readiness (where applicable) Key Relationships Group Finance Manager CEO and Senior Leadership Team Operational Management Teams External Auditors, Tax Advisors and Banks Key Qualities: · ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent senior experience) · Proven experience operating at group level across multiple businesses · Comfortable working at Board level while remaining hands-on where required · Strong technical accounting knowledge with a commercial mindset · Experience of complex group structures, consolidation, and regulated environments · Construction or property sector experience preferred · Confident operating alongside an established finance lead in a shared responsibility model · Calm, credible, and robust when providing challenge and assurance What We Offer: • A genuinely senior role focused on high-impact, strategic finance • Clear division between operational and senior-level responsibilities • Direct exposure to Board-level decision making • A growing group with long-term ambition and investment appetite • Competitive salary and benefits package Are you ready to become part of something special?
