Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Award winning Fire Safety team in the Health and Safety Directorate at University Hospitals of Liverpool Group.

The Fire Safety Advisor is a post for a highly confident, highly motivated and conscientious person to support the Trust in its compliance with HTM Firecode and all statutory legislation and guidance.


Main duties of the job

The purpose of the role is to work in partnership within a team of fire safety advisors to support University Hospitals of Liverpool Group fulfilling their statutory and regulatory duties as set of in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 05 suite; HTM-05-01, HTM-05-02 and HTM-05-03


The post holder will interpreting highly complex legislation, statutory regulation, approved codes of practice and guidance to advise and the direction of fire safety across the organisation. They will establish a suitable and sufficient fire safety management system that will seek to provide assurance throughout the Trust.

Specific responsibilities will include undertaking Fire Risk Assessments and developing associated action plans, arranging evacuation drills, delivering the Trust fire safety training program, liaison with the local Fire Service, preparing fire safety reports, incident report investigation, providing reports for and attendance at relevant Trust meetings, the provision of fire safety information and expert advice to all staff and advise local management on technical fire safety matters.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role holder will work in partnership with a team of fire safety advisors to deliver:

* fire safety training
* fire safety assurance inspections
* the investigations of any unwanted fire alarm signals or fires
* fire safety reports
* fire safety communications

in addition:

* provide fire safety technical advice
* supporting with the review and implement the fire safety policy and association fire management documentation in the form of safe operating policies, procedures and guidance


Person specification


Qualifications

* Fire Safety Level 4
* HTM Firecode
* Fire Safety Level 3
* Member of professional organisation (IFE)
* Registered as a fire risk assessor with a recognised accredited body


Experience

* Working across organisation boundaries to improve standards
* Working with external agencies and influencing change2
* Experienced in undertaking fire risk assessments
* Extensive experience in healthcare setting


Knowledge

* Working knowledge of The Fire Safety Order, Firecode and Building Regulations.
* Knowledge of fire modelling techniques
* Knowledge of fire risk management techniques
* NEEBOSH or similar H&S qualification


Skills

* Highly developed and effective negotiating and influencing skills and ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships
* Highly developed and effective verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to assimilate and analyse complex problems, then identify and present necessary actions and make recommendations to ensure actions are implemented.
* Computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft office applications
* Ability to concentrate for long periods of time, prioritise and managed a varied and unpredictable work pattern
* Ability to organise events

* Duties involve walking for prolonged periods with occasional working in remote hot/dust/cold plant room/basement areas.

Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting & processing the successful applicant/s DBS application be recovered via salary deduction following start in post. Bank posts require upfront payment.
