Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Main purpose of the job
Responsible for organising, managing and developing the Manufacturing Engineering team to ensure that the operational team is supported in full and to the expected quality and output standards, and New Product Launch is fully supported with the specification and procurement of equipment / process in a timely manner.
Main missions and results
Manufacturing Engineering & NPI Delivery:
• Oversee Manufacturing Engineering activities across process flow, layout, equipment specification and implementation in line with readiness processes
• Support trials and ensure successful completion of new equipment acceptance and validation
• Provide engineering support across NPI, launch and change management activities
• Liaise with customers and internal functions to support feasibility, problem resolution and product introduction
• Ensure Manufacturing Engineers are actively engaged in NPI and launch delivery.
Quality, Risk & Performance Management:
• Support structured problem‑solving (e.g. 8D), ensuring robust root cause and corrective actions
• Promote a proactive approach to quality, identifying and resolving issues early
• Ensure processes and equipment are designed to build in quality and detect issues at source
• Define, track and report KPI performance, ensuring data is accurate, objective and drives action
• Contribute to optimisation of processes to deliver output targets (quality, cost, delivery)
Health, Safety & Compliance:
• Promote a strong behavioural safety culture, including hazard identification and safe working practices
• Act as an ambassador for positive Health & Safety behaviours across the organisation
• Ensure compliance with Artifex HSE procedures, including incident reporting, EHS processes and environmental standards
• Maintain knowledge and application of relevant legislation and standards (e.g. IATF16949 where applicable)
Continuous Improvement & Technology:
• Track and support continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives
• Coordinate and participate in Kaizen activities across the site
• Promote the use and understanding of CI methodologies to improve performance
• Identify and introduce best‑practice manufacturing technologies
People Leadership, Engagement & Capability:
• Manage, coach and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team to meet performance expectations
• Ensure effective deployment of skills through training matrices, certification and capability development
• Actively manage performance, recognising strengths and addressing gaps
• Foster strong team engagement through clear, effective and tailored communication (listen, discuss, instruct, engage)
• Build professional, respectful relationships underpinned by accountability and performance standards
Commercial & Resource Management:
• Monitor and positively influence project budget spend
• Ensure adherence to labour and staffing budgets
• Manage allocated CAPEX responsibilities
Preferred skills and experience
Essential:
• HNC/HND level education within an Engineering focused discipline
• Prior experience of management of a multi-skilled team of Manufacturing Engineers, preferably within an Automotive/FMCG environment
• Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools with demonstrable results
• Influencing and persuasive style with motivational and coaching approach to team
• Focused on Health and Safety and continuous improvement
• “Can Do” attitude with propensity to problem solve
• Computer literate with Microsoft packages
• Excellent communication skills at all levels
Desirable:
• Degree level education within a Managerial / Engineering focused discipline
• Management of a diverse team within an Automotive Unionised environment
• Trained to a Green Belt Six Sigma level
• Experience of leading CI projects and initiatives
