Woodland Logistics are recruiting a Transport Manager. The Transport Manager reports to the Senior Management Team and works closely with the UK Central Planning Team, site operatives, drivers, the on-site customer service team, and management. Under the guidance and direction of the Senior Management Team, this role will work as part of the transport team, actively contributing to the day-to-day operation to ensure an effective and efficient transport function that meets customer requirements while delivering commercial benefits for Woodland.

What you will be doing:
1. Oversee the despatch, ensuring the driving workforce are fully using the tech and completing their job
2. Ensure that internal and external customer requirements are met by working with the customer and SMT to produce any bespoke Standard Operating Procedures and Service Level Agreements.
3. Maintain a safe and healthy working environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures complying with legal regulations, carry out risk assessments, report ay near miss or areas of concern;
4. Support the SMT to ensure that harmonious working relationships are maintained with all operatives and drivers and customers;
5. Make recommendations for identified issues that are derogatory to a safe, efficient and service focused environment.
6. Any other duties as required by management for the smooth and efficient operation of the department.
7. Understand and fully utilise Woodland Logistics operating systems and communication devices, ensuring that all reporting staff are using the systems and devices correctly and in full to the benefit of the operation; maintain such electronic devices delivering information essential to the business and its customers, including but not limited to E-POD, POD image capture, vehicle and trailer tracking.
8. Ensure correct measures are in place for optimal management of all work within the transport team, driver fleet and within any other area of responsibility, consistently meeting customer requirements; all reporting staff are correctly and sufficiently inducted and trained to complete their responsibilities.
9. Ensure appropriate controls and procedures are in place to effectively and efficiently manage service delivery concerns and failures, effectively protecting the Company/customer relationship; full and immediate use of the TMS to record all exceptions and report these on a frequency agreed with the customer and the senior management team.
10. Promote a ‘customer first’ approach. Understand customer requirements and quality standards, ensuring the correct procedures are in place to recognise and meet these, exceeding expectations wherever possible, proposal of any changes to process or procedure discussed with the senior management team and the customer. Engage with customers to help ensure maximum operational satisfaction; report all meetings to your manager. Always ensure credit application and authorisation process is adopted prior to engaging services to any customer.
11. Ensure appropriate measures are in place to maintain all equipment and machinery, including but not limited to Company vehicles, and where necessary PPE, as legally compliant and in good working order; continual management and weekly reporting of all tachograph, working time directive and compliance failures, infringements and concerns, ensure appropriate and effective corrective action is introduced, recorded and reported to the Manager.
12. Control KPI reports, budget reports and any other report as required by the Manager and senior management;
13. Maintain an excellent working knowledge of all legislation that is relevant to the transport and warehousing industry and work in accordance with this constantly and consistently and without neglect;
14. Understand the Operating Licence obligations and ensure that appropriate controls and procedures are enforced within your remit of responsibility to meet these; report immediately any concerns or issues to the manager, the senior management team and the Directors.
15. Promote and adhere to Company policy and procedure and legislation, all policy and procedure documents are available to all employees via the company’s intranet site and must be read, understood and accepted by every employee.
16. Work with the operations team to continually improve processes and business performance;
17. Support changes in the role necessary to take the department and business forward; and
18. Work to achieve personal objectives set at appraisal and/or those set monthly or quarterly.
19. Achieve agreed individual objectives.
20. Ensure vehicle daily and weekly KPI revenues are treated as a minimum standard rather than a target.
21. Apply the company mantras: Rule of 8 and Right Vehicle, Right Place.
22. Manage and justify empty mileage, with the aim of reducing this an absolute minimum
23. Understand and adhere to all Woodland policies and procedures relevant to the role.
