The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, with shared office space, attending when necessary, and working remotely on other days. We welcome applications from Lead Engineers across this region.
Our Structures Team designs some of the largest civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland, with cumulative values over £1bn.
Amey manages the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively, each extending up to 12 years. We also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, and transportation projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and contractors nationwide.
The role
Our Lead Bridge Engineers play a key role within the Design team and collaborate with Transport Scotland. As a Lead Senior Engineer, you will support your Design Team Leader on various civil schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior designers.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions that meet all standards and client requirements.
* Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation to ensure quality, cost, and schedule objectives are met.
* Supervising junior staff and overseeing their work.
* Managing project budgets and costs to ensure commercial success.
* Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
* Contributing to bids and work-winning efforts.
* Promoting health and safety within the team.
What you will bring to us:
* Experienced in relevant technical fields, likely in a Senior Engineer role or similar.
* Ability to produce and check high-quality engineering designs independently and supervise others.
* Knowledge of health, safety, and welfare management, including relevant regulations.
* Experience acting as the main engineering contact, e.g., CRE for Network Rail schemes.
* Strong understanding of design and specification processes, with the ability to advise and check designs.
* Proficiency with relevant software and analytical tools.
* Good understanding of CDM and risk assessment, with experience managing hazards and risks.
* Capability to act as Principal Designer on projects.
* Leadership and people management skills for a medium-sized technical team.
* Incorporated or Chartered status is desirable and may be essential depending on contracts.
