About us
The School of Applied Sciences (SOAS) is a highly successful, dynamic and evolving School comprising approximately 100 academic and research staff and over 60 postgraduate research students. It delivers a cohesive portfolio of science courses and CPD, encouraging multidisciplinary work and a problem‑solving mindset. SOAS is supported by three UWE Research Centres – the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBR), the Science Communication Unit (SCU) and the Centre for Sustainable Agri‑food and Environment (SAFE) – and the Institute of Biosensing Technology (IBST). The School has state‑of‑the‑art research facilities including refurbished molecular biology laboratories, cell‑culture facilities, imaging suites, a human analysis laboratory, an electron microscope unit and specialised bio‑sensor development facilities. SOAS has a strong health‑related programme portfolio, including a highly successful MSc in Health Technology and an MSc in Applied Transfusion and Transplant Science in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant. It is a proud recipient of an Athena SWAN Silver Award and is committed to creating a culture of gender equality.
Within the College of Health, Science and Society (CHSS), SOAS participates in the delivery of a range of health and allied science courses. This includes nursing, paramedic science, radiography and the Independent Prescribing course. UWE’s research is funded by UK Research Councils, Innovate UK, the National Institute for Health Research, local businesses, national and international industry and the European Commission.
Responsibilities
The Associate Professor will lead the development of the MPharm curriculum and pedagogies, provide leadership in teaching, learning and assessment, develop and deliver work‑based placements, build links with community pharmacy, NHS organisations, industry and other stakeholders, pursue knowledge exchange, publish research and contribute to policy influence.
Qualifications
A PhD (or an equivalent master’s qualification with significant professional practice) relevant to pharmacy; a pharmacy professional with GPhC registration; experience organising, developing and delivering teaching within an MPharm programme; evidence of successfully delivering work‑based placements; strong leadership, motivational and organisational skills; and the ability to keep abreast of the latest developments and best‑practice benchmarks in pharmacy practice and education.
Additional Information
This post is full‑time, permanent and campus‑based for 60 % or more of the time, with the opportunity to work from home the remaining days. The role requires standard DBS clearance.
